Dargues Reef was eventually acquired by a Victorian Mining Company, dams were constructed and a ten stamp battery erected, again extraction processes failed and the project was abandoned, Dargues was at a standstill. During the early 1880''s a few tons from Dargues were crushed but quartz or reef mining was now viewed as a thing of the past.
